Rohit Sharma Joins Mumbai Squad for Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Training Sessions Ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Match

Rohit Sharma, India's Test and ODI captain, has joined the Mumbai squad for training ahead of the second phase of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, fueling speculation that he may play in the upcoming match against Jammu and Kashmir starting January 23 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This decision aligns with a BCCI advisory encouraging Team India players to participate in the Ranji Trophy when available, despite Rohit's recent lean patch in international cricket. He participated in a two-hour center-wicket session at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday alongside his domestic outfit teammates. Mumbai hopes Rohit's experience will boost their squad as they aim for crucial wins in the league stage.

Rohit Sharma has commenced training with the Mumbai squad in preparation for the second phase of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. The team is preparing for their sixth-round home game against Jammu and Kashmir, which will begin on January 23 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Rohit participated in a two-hour center-wicket session at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. He trained alongside his Mumbai teammates. These sessions are expected to continue throughout the week. Omkar Salvi, Mumbai's head coach, is guiding the team.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has not yet confirmed the squad for the match. However, Rohit's presence at training suggests he may be available for at least one of the two remaining league games.

A source close to the MCA spoke to TOI on Monday.

“Rohit has told the MCA that he will come for practice. At the moment, there are all indications that he's keen to play the match versus J&K.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an informal advisory. It urges Team India players to prioritize Ranji Trophy participation when they are not on national duty or recovering from injuries.

Rohit's decision to join the Mumbai team aligns with this advisory. This comes even as he faces criticism for his recent performance in international cricket.

Rohit's recent form has been under scrutiny. He scored only 31 runs in three Tests during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Mumbai is hoping that Rohit Sharma's experience will strengthen their squad. They aim to secure important wins in the final phase of the Ranji Trophy league stage.

The MCA is expected to finalize and announce the team later this week.
